Today Google launched their Second Life clone, called Lively. Honestly, I would question why they spent their time and resources on something like this. It is very un-Google-like, in that they are chasing other startups with such clones. Additionally, why do we need this, hasn’t Second Life’s 15 minutes already passed? What Google claims makes them unique is that you are not tied to a specific website to enter the virtual environment, you can add an entry point to virtually any site.
Personally, I would rather of had Google spend their time and resources on improving Gmail and Google Docs, and providing better integration between their products. At least they used Arizona State University to test it.
